Antonis Lagadianos

Antonis is one of the three founding partners of LCI Law, of which he is its managing partner. He practices English-law shipping dispute resolution.

He has worked for over 30 years at the London and Piraeus offices of Ince & Co and at the Athens office of Watson Farley & Williams, well-known for his broad shipping law practice working for shipowners (including leading shipowners), P&I Clubs, hull & machinery underwriters and cargo traders.

He has significant expertise in ship casualties, cargo claims and disputes under charterparty, sale and purchase, shipbuilding, bill of lading, cargo sale and marine insurance contracts – in London arbitration, the English High Court and alternative dispute resolution. His in-depth experience of the shipping market makes him his clients’ first port of call to help them with complex issues and everyday matters.

  • Acted for the buyers of two containerships which were under construction in South Korea in a substantial dispute concerning the quality of the building works following the discovery of serious welding defects leading to the cancellation of the contracts
  • Acted for the owners of a Capesize bulk carrier in an indemnity claim against time charterers following the collision of the vessel with a bunkering barge off Busan which caused significant pollution and substantial claims against the owners
  • Acting for owners in a very substantial claim against charterers concerning a cargo hold explosion during a voyage from China to the United States caused by the shipment of undeclared dangerous cargoes
  • Acting for the owners of three vessels in multi-jurisdictional enforcement proceedings against their defaulting Iranian charterers

Antonis is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers Europe, which notes his significant experience in litigation arising from charterparty disputes and ship damage, including explosions at sea, engine breakdowns and claims arising under war risk policies, quoting him as “not only [having] deep knowledge of the shipping litigation, but he also has a commercial approach” and “very prompt and easy to communicate with”. He is also a Leading Individual for Shipping Litigation in Greece by the Legal 500, quoted as being an “excellent lawyer, modest, always available”.
